Topsham police have released a sketch of the suspect they believe robbed a tanning salon last week.

In a post on the police department’s Facebook page, a rendering drawn by sketch artist shows a white male with bushy brown hair and light stubble on his chin.

Police said the robbery occurred around 8:30 p.m. on April 10 at Sun Tan City, a tanning salon located at 105 Topsham Fair Mall Road.

After the robbery, Topsham police issued a statement that said the robber was between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall. He wore a long, dark hooded jacket and kept his face covered during the robbery.

Witnesses told police the robber displayed a semi-automatic firearm and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported.

Officers brought in a police dog but were unable to track the robber.

Topsham police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Mark LaFountain, at 725-4337, extension 2213 or mlafountain@topshammaine.com.

Topsham police are not saying whether they think the man depicted in the sketch has been involved with a rash of mostly late-night armed robberies in southern Maine that began March 20.
