Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine recently presented the 2018 ShineOnCass Mentoring Award to three “Bigs” at Messalonskee High School and for the first time, to a Big Sister at Waterville Senior High School. The presentations were made by the organization at student assemblies held at both high schools in April.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine ShineOnCass Mentoring Award was established to honor and remember Cassidy Charette, whose passion for youth mentoring Shines On at programs established in her honor. The ShineOnCass programs pair Messalonskee High School students with youth at Williams and Atwood elementary schools in Oakland and teens from Waterville, Winslow, Lawrence and Messalonskee high schools with children attending after school care at the Boys & Girls Club/YMCA at Alfond Youth Center in Waterville. The high school mentors meet with their “Littles” for an hour each week during the academic year.

This year’s award recipients include Messalonskee “Bigs” Blake Marden, Emily Larsen and Noah Tuttle, and Leah Shoulta, from Waterville Senior High School.
