The Whitefield Lions Club hosted its 12th annual golf tournament on July 14 at Sheepscot Links in Whitefield, which provided the course and carts for the event.

Proceeds raised will be used to fund many causes supported by the Whitefield Lions including the harvest dinner, children’s Christmas party, local animal shelters, local nursing homes and hospice, eyeglass and cellphone collection, local food banks and scholarships to graduating seniors.

Whitefield Lions volunteers registered the golfers and provided a lunch. Raffle tickets were sold for numerous prizes donated by local businesses. A 2018 Jeep Cherokee was offered by Newcastle Chrysler Dodge Jeep to anyone shooting a hole in one, and a million-dollar shot contest was held at the end of the event. Registered golfers paid $10 to enter their names into a drawing. The winner of the drawing was Eddie McCarty who shot from 165 feet. McCarty’s ball came within 10 feet of the hole.

The team with the lowest gross score (62) was Jim Spear, David Leeman, Eddie McCarty and Darryl Leeman.

The team with the lowest net score (43) was Ben Runius, Mark Runius, Jeff Spaulding and Danny Card.

Closest to pin on hole #2 was Justin Marcellino at 12 feet 2 inches.
