The DaPonte String Quartet will open its new series Saturday, May 4.
The following concerts are planned: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St.; 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, UU Church, 1 Middle St., Brunswick; 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Portland Jewish Museum, 267 Congress St., Portland; 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at St. Columba’s Church, 32 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Lincoln Theatre, 2 Theatre St. Damariscotta.
The quartet originated in Philadelphia in 1991 and shortly thereafter, came to Maine for a three-year residency granted by National Endowment for the Arts. During that residency, the community so embraced the musicians that the Friends of DaPonte String Quartet was formed to ensure their longevity in our state. Twenty-eight years later, they remain in our midst, performing and educating year round to mesmerized audiences and enchanted students.
This exciting program features pieces from the composer’s early, middle and late string quartets.
