NORTH ANSON — Mad Louie, aka Louis Moniz, joined the K-8 Carrabec Community School on April 12.

Moniz, 77, of Benton, is a retired Marine and obesity awareness health instructor. He visits schools around Maine to teach health and fitness to pre-school to eighth grade. His programs are about maintaining healthy bodies through nutrition and exercise, where he encourages students to remember the words, respect, pride, manners, courtesy and fun, according to a news release from Candy LeBeau, elementary coordinating secretary for CCS Let’s Go! 5210 School Champion.

The school is an active Let’s Go! 5210 school and its district receives funding from the Move More kids Program. The school champion recruits teachers to follow the district wellness policy, reports back to its Move More Kids Program coordinator, distributes materials and information to school staff and administration, attend mandatory Somerset Public Health sponsored training.

For five hours straight, Mad Louie exercised right along with the entire eighth-grade class, showing grit and perseverance, according to LeBeau.
