AUGUSTA — Lithgow Public Library will host two fun-filled swing events, Intro to East Coast Swing at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, and a Swingtime Concert at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the library at 45 Winthrop St. Both events are free and open to the public, according to a news release from the library.

Before Julie Olson was the Adult Services librarian, she lived a short stint as a professional ballroom dancer. Join Olson for an introduction to East Coast swing dancing May 7. No partner or sign up required.

On May 14, Maine’s “little big band,” Swingtime Band will perform. The evening will be filled with hits from the 30s, 40s and 50s.

According to the release, the Swingtime Band is enjoying its 19th year performing easy listening swing music. They have appeared in many locations throughout central Maine, a few noteworthy ones such as  Augusta Country Club, Spectrum Generations Senior Expo at the Augusta Civic Center, and concerts in Jewett Hall at the University of Maine for the Cecilia Club and for the National Cancer Survivors Day in 2004.

Band members include bandleader Elaine Bender on the keyboard, Dave Gagne on the guitar, Bob Esterberg on the drums, Dave Thibodeau on the bass, Wayne Pare on the tenor sax, and Phil Tedrick on the violin. All band members are professional musicians who play in many other venues and with other musicians. They have produced five CDs.
