Painter Roger Ireland recently announced that his most recent work was chosen for a solo art exhibition set for 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Huiskamer Coffee House, 216 Water St., in Augusta.
Ireland is a local painter who is known for his vivid abstract paintings. Ireland’s work focuses on exaggerating shape and form with an extremely rich color palette.
He has been a long time resident of Hallowell with his home and studio located on Loudon Hill. Bored with the detail and line work of illustration, he moved into abstract utilizing water based paints. It wasn’t until he was recovering from surgery and after receiving a large quantity of gouache and acrylic paint, that he decided to fully jump into painting.
Huiskamer Coffee House plans to host more art events and will soon have announcements on their Spring and Summer Art Series showcasing local artists from Augusta and surrounding areas.
