100 Years Ago: 1921
The Ladies’ Circle of the Old Pine Street Free Baptist church met for an all day session with Mrs. S.J. Schoppe, Upper Main Street, in Lewiston yesterday. A picnic dinner was served at noon and lots of work was accomplished. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. A.R. Blaisedell of Riverside Street, the date to be announced later on.
50 Years Ago: 1971
Auburn Police today were investigating a break at the Drummond Street Market, where it seems, nothing of great value was taken. Officer Robert Gosselin discovered the incident shortly after 1 o’clock this morning, and Officer Robert Dumais was dispatched to the scene. Someone entered the building by prying open a rear door, apparently with a screwdriver. Once inside, the office was ransacked, and the meat case, and two metal boxes were opened. Police notified the owner, Richmond Boureault, and Boureault said the only things missing were a liquor bottle, a six-pack of beer, and several cartons of cigarettes.
25 Years Ago: 1996
The Auburn Business Association’s 1996 Citizen of the Year will be named May 2 at the association’s 23rd Annual Citizen of the year. The banquet to be held at the Lost Valley Area Banquet Facility. Some of the past recipients of the award are: Barbara Ring, Tonie Ramsey, Jane Norris, Lee Young, Malcolm Philbrook Jr., Ralph Tuttle, Penny Woodard, Jerry LaPlante and Clarence Cole.
