SKOWHEGAN — Scorching heat greeted visitors to the opening of the Skowhegan State Fair on Thursday, as the annual celebration got underway at the town fairgrounds.
Tens of thousands of people were expected to attend the fair during its 10-day run. Opening day featured a special $1 admission, with the midway opening at 1 p.m. amid 90-degree heat. The Royal Hanneford Circus holding its first performance in the evening. The fair’s final day is Saturday, Aug. 21.
The fair is also featuring four COVID-19 vaccination clinics, which are scheduled from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. near the grandstands at the fairgrounds, Sunday and Monday and on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 20-21.
