Infrastructure is one of the most pressing issues facing America today, and Sen. Susan Collins deserves recognition for her efforts to craft a robust, pro-growth, and forward-thinking infrastructure package that delivers the results we need.

Sen. Collins’ reputation for bipartisan cooperation and policymaking has been a critical in negotiations to modernize and upgrade our entire infrastructure — from repairing our aging roads, highways, bridges, and ports to investing in clean energy technologies for a more sustainable future. The senator’s work to modernize the nation’s energy storage should also be applauded. Overall, her efforts lay the groundwork for a stronger economy and future.

This should come as no surprise as Maine is leading the way in tapping into renewable energy sources. Our state leads New England in wind-powered generation and ranks sixth in the nation. The vast majority of our electricity — nearly four-fifths — comes from renewable resources, including wind as well as solar, hydro, and wood.

While Sen. Collins recognizes the importance of clean energy resources through sensible legislation, including the championing of National Clean Energy Week resolutions at the federal level, it is crucial that we continue to develop these resources to ensure the U.S. remains globally competitive while creating well-paying, modern-day jobs that powers local economies.

Keep up the good work, Sen. Collins. The sooner the president can sign the Infrastructure Investments & Jobs Act into law, the faster we can get to rebuilding critical infrastructure — and creating new jobs — here in Maine and across the country.
