AUGUSTA — South Belfast Avenue was closed Tuesday due to construction of the Togus Pond Family Fishing Facility, according to Chief Jared Mills of the Augusta Police Department.

The project, led by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, includes installation of two casting platforms adjacent to the bridge.

Police said a signed detour route on Bolton Hill Road, North Belfast Avenue (Route 3), Weeks Mill Road and Ward Road has been set up to help motorists get around the construction work.

“This road closure is expected to be one day,” Mills wrote in a statement to the news media, “but may be extended as needed due to unforeseen circumstances.”
