The second annual Cobbossee Ice Fishing Derby is planned from sunrise to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5. Cobbossee Lake stretches into Litchfield, Manchester, Monmouth, West Gardiner and Winthrop.

This year the derby will help benefit Cony Project Graduation, the YMCA Camp of Maine and The Friends of The Cobbossee Watershed, according to a news release from the derby organizer Jason Everett.

Prices for first, second and third place will be awarded for Largest Pike, Pickerel, Pan Fish, and Trout, with a Kids Category as well.

The cost is a $20 entry fee or $15 for early entry (before Sunday, Feb. 20), $35 family (parents with children younger than 16) or $30 early entry. The only place to register the day of the event is the Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed, 2518 U.S. Route 202 in Winthrop. Registration must be completed by 10 a.m.

The first 50 youths 17 and younger that show up will receive a free trap donated by Traps for Kids.

The derby will include three weight stations, and a small concession stand will be at the YMCA Camp of Maine, 305 Winthrop Center Road in Winthrop.

Every ticket will get entered into the raffle drawing that will include a set of five Jack Traps. A total of $5,000 in raffle prizes will be awarded.

The event is sponsored by General Dynamics (Bath Iron Works), Kennebec Savings Bank, Mattson’s Flooring & Window Treatments and Brookewood Realty.
