Susan Collins has been playing games with the people of Maine for decades, but her statements related to the now-likely reversal of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court rise to a breathtaking level of deceit on this critical issue.
Apparently Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh told her that they acknowledged Roe to be “settled law.” One can imagine them winking at her as they said this, since “settled” does not mean that they wouldn’t vote to overturn it.
It is impossible that she did not know this. Nor does she support any of the actions proposed to ensure that women do not lose their right to control their own bodies.
She should resign her Senate seat immediately so that Maine can be represented by two senators who represent the vast majority of Maine people on the issue.
