Maine reported a slight drop in the number of hospital patients with COVID-19 Thursday.

A total of 140 patients were hospitalized statewide as of Thursday morning, including 22 in critical care, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The overall number of patients is down from 143 on Wednesday, and the one-day decrease comes after two weeks of steady increases in the state’s patient counts.

None of the patients in critical care were on ventilators. Until this week, it had been 20 months since there were no Maine patients ill enough to need a ventilator, according to CDC data.

Maine also reported 202 new cases Thursday, bringing the seven-day average to 201 cases per day. Infections confirmed with at-home tests are not included in the official counts.

Since the pandemic began, Maine has recorded 274,015 cases and 2,464 deaths.
