Serving in the state Legislature is an honorable, difficult calling: the hours are long, the work is complex, and the responsibilities are heavy. We are facing complicated issues: the housing crisis, the continuing overdose epidemic, and the crunch of inflation on households recovering from the turbulence of the pandemic. These issues call for careful analysis and thoughtful action, but the hyperpartisanship in our politics pushes elected officials toward theatrics and away from productive cooperation.

Raegan LaRochelle’s long history of service — on Augusta’s City Council, on the YMCA board of directors, on the board of Lithgow Library, to name a few — shows her ability to do the work, not grandstand for publicity. She knows how to cooperate, even when it means putting aside ego.

Raegan LaRochelle has the spirit of service we need as our representative for District 59. I hope you’ll join me in voting for her on Nov. 8.
