Gov. Janet Mills announced changes Monday in her communications office.

Mills’ longtime spokeswoman, Lindsay Crete, is leaving her press secretary post, Communications Director Scott Ogden is being promoted to deputy chief of staff, and Department of Economic and Community Development legislative liaison Ben Goodman will become Mills’ deputy press secretary.

The governor’s office will also hire a press secretary in the coming months, Mills said. Ogden will continue to oversee communications in his new role.

Crete has been press secretary since Mills took office in January 2019. Before that, she served as deputy communications director for EMILY’s List and communications director for the Maine House Majority Office and the Maine Speaker of the House. Mills did not say what Crete will be doing next.

“Over the past four years, Lindsay has been a valued and trusted spokesperson, adviser, and, above all else, a friend,” Mills said. “She is truly one of the most adept, thoughtful, and generous people I have had the honor to work with. I will miss her more than words can describe.”

Prior to serving as DECD’s legislative liaison for policy and external communications, Goodman served as national director of Mission: Readiness and as an aide to former U.S. Congressman Mike Michaud.
