The Rangeley Skating Club and the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce held the eighth annual Rangeley Winterpaloozah!, a celebration of winter activities and competitions for the entire family, on Feb. 19 at Town Park and Haley Pond Park.
The event included skating, curling, pond hockey, horse and wagon rides, a marshmallow roast, snow kite, and Snowball “Ted.” All were free.
New this year was Heartsong Kennels, providing dog sled rides throughout the day. Three of the competitions were held at Town Park: Dog Keg Pull, Buoy Ball and Log Toss, with the Cardboard Box Race at Rangeley Inn Pavilion. There were a few defending champs, and some new competitors showed up to give it a go, according to a news release from Lisa Mejorado with the chamber.

• Small Dogs: Terry Guen with Cassie, a two-time champion
• Medium Dogs: Nancy Perlson and Scout, a five-time champion
• Large Dogs: Gary Perlson and Thor

• Race: Elliot Richardson
Firewood Toss
• Men: Josh McLellon
• Women: Quinn Snyder
• 12 & Under: Trevor Knoitkowski

• 12 & Under: Elias Hilo
The local business community supported Winterpaloozah! with prizes for the competitions as well as the horse and wagon rides with Ken’s Fellas, Bert & Ernie. Those included Allied Realty, Blue Flame Gas Company, Brackett’s Portable Toilets, Classic Provisions, Morton & Furbish Insurance Agency, Morton & Furbish Real Estate & Rentals, Oquossoc Grocery, Rangeley Adventure Co., Saddleback Maine, Sarge’s Sports Pub & Grub, and SnowSource.
