FAYETTE — Kennebec Land Trust’s Parker Pond Headland Preserve on Fellows Cove Road is temporarily closed to hikers during mud season, through April or May.

The Fellows Cove Road is only open to homeowners to minimize the impacts on the road, according to a news release from Marie Ring, the trust’s director of membership and programming.

During mud season, the trust recommends hikers instead visit the nearby Ezra Smith Conservation Area in Mount Vernon, Torsey Pond Nature Preserve or Rosmarin & Saunders Family Forest, both in Readfield, or Hutchinson Pond in Manchester.

Hikers are asked to help take care of all the local trails by staying off them when they are muddy.
