Dana Wilde, the Kennebec Journal’s climate theologian, seemed depressed in his recent climate alarmism columns, so I thought I would cheer him up a little.

1) If Maine eliminated all of its CO2 emissions, it would have no discernible impact on climate. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) rates Maine’s CO2 footprint as the fifth-smallest in the country. Add in the millions of forested acres in Maine that sequester most of the CO2 and the impact on climate change is de minimus.

2) China and India produce about 70% of the world’s CO2 emissions. They have announced they are increasing their production of coal. Last year China issued 148 coal-fired power plant construction permits.

3) There are roughly 250-300 million gasoline powered cars in the U.S. Electric vehicle (EV) production stands at about 1 million per year.

Even if production was increased five-fold, it would take “how long” to replace all the gas vehicles? Michelle and Barack’s $12 million spread on Martha’s Vineyard will be under water by then.

4) The EIA rates wind power at 35% reliable and solar power 22%. What are we going to do when the sun doesn’t shine or the wind doesn’t blow? Listen to Peter, Paul, and Mary singing “Blowing in the Wind”?

So basically there is nothing to be depressed over Dana. Anything Maine does won’t amount to a cup of warm spit.
