Tom Vesosky and Kyle Douin each drove in two runs in both ends of a doubleheader Sunday in Gorham, leading Southern Maine to 6-4 and 6-2 baseball wins over UMass Dartmouth.

Bryce Afthim pitched all nine innings in Game 1, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out seven and walking one. The Huskies (4-12, 2-2 Little East) took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the eighth, on a two-run singles by Vesosky and Douin.

In Game 2, Clay Robbins held the Corsairs (11-8, 2-2) to five hits over eight innings.

ST. JOSEPH’S SPLITS: Luke Stephens hit a pair of RBI singles and Dawson Gundlah had a two-run double to lead the Monks (6-10) to a 4-3 win over New England College (5-11) in a doubleheader opener at Standish.

Matthew Bergeron picked up the win, yielding six hits and one earned run over 6 1/3 innings, with six strikeouts and one walk. Stephens got the final two outs for a save.

Stephens added another RBI single in the second game and Jared Wilhelm went 4 for 4 for the Monks in a 3-2 loss.

BATES LOSES TWICE: Brandon Biggane drove in four runs with a double and a home run, and Brennan Kelley belted a two-run homer for Bates, but Bobcats (8-7, 0-3 NESCAC) were unable to avoid a doubleheader sweep against Tufts (10-5, 3-0), losing 18-8 in Game 2 after a 2-0 defeat in the opener at Medford, Massachusetts.

COLBY LOSES TWICE: Michael Aceto faced only one batter more than the minimum while pitching a nine-inning two-hitter as Trinity (11-5, 2-1 NESCAC) completed a doubleheader sweep against Colby (11-5, 1-2) with a 6-0 win in Hartford, Connecticut.

The Bantams won 7-4 in Game 1.

SOFTBALL

USM SWEEPS: Lauren Merrill pitched a three-hitter in the opener and Lexus McIntosh allowed only four hits in the second game as Southern Maine (6-8, 2-0 Little East) swept a doubleheader against Western Connecticut State (10-10, 0-2), winning 7-0 and 2-1 in Gorham.

Rona Scott hit a three-run homer and Madison Day had a two-run double in Game 1.

Hannah Shields drove in the winning run in Game 2 with an RBI single in the fifth inning that plated Merrill.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS: Meredith Pence pitched an eight-inning four hitter in Game 1 and Emily Eagleston tossed a five-hit shutout in Game 2, lead the Monks (10-8, 4-0 GNAC) to a sweep of Regis (4-10, 0-2) in Weston, Massachusetts, 5-1 and 1-0.

Sadie Tirrell broke a 1-1 tie in the opener with a two-run single. Olivia Howe followed with an RBI double and scored on a wild pitch.

Charlotte Cloutier’s RBI double in the fifth inning lifted the Monks to their Game 2 win.

BOWDOIN SPLITS: Katryna Dukehart finished the day with three RBI as Bowdoin (11-11, 4-4 NESCAC) split a doubleheader against Middlebury (10-6, 2-2) in Brunswick.

Angelina Mayers hit a solo home run for Bowdoin in a 3-2 loss in Game 1.

Dukehart started the Polar Bears on their way to a 9-1 victory in the second game with a two-run double. JK Bradley also had two RBI.

UNE LOSES TWICE: Makenzy Herron’s RBI single in Game 2 accounted for the University of New England’s only run as the Nor’easters (3-15, 0-2 Commonwealth Coast) lost a pair of five-inning games against Wentworth (14-4, 2-0) in Boston, 11-0 and 9-1.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 14, ROGER WILLIAMS 8: Annie Eddy scored five goals and Elizabeth Hennessey added four as the Mules (6-3) beat the Seahawks (5-5) in Bristol, Rhode Island.
