LEWISTON — Coach Gretchen Livingston said the Cony Rams are an unselfish bunch.

The Rams had three athletes turn in hat tricks as they rolled to a 14-1 victory over Lewiston in girls lacrosse game Monday.

“We came out strong against Gardiner in the season opener, and I think that carried us through today as well,” Livingston said. “All 12 people are involved out there. … (It was) unselfish play from everybody on the team, from goalie all the way up to high attack.”

Cony (2-0) didn’t waste time taking control of the game, opening up an 8-0 lead by halftime.

Azabell Assaf, one of three Rams to score three goals, opened up the scoring with a goal three minutes and two seconds into the first half.

Junior midfielder Maci Freeman slipped in two of her three goals and earned an assist in the first half.

“We have great ball movement that creates (opportunities) for other people, and that’s how I was able to get most of my goals is my teammates creating openings, spaces and gaps,” Freeman said.

Sophomore midfielder Abby Morrill also scored three goals and picked up an assist along the way.

“We do have some young players, but we do have some girls with a lot of experience,” Morrill said. “We do play well together. The older girls definitely help guide the younger girls. Our attack is pretty young, but I think we do a great job.

“It was really good being on the field with my team. We really supported each other and got to get some new plays in.”

Cony collected another six goals in the second half before leaving with a 14-1 victory.

Lewiston’s (0-2) loan goal came when Kaitlyn Shannon scored in the second half.

“We are still building,” Blue Devils coach Trace Blaisdell. “It is early in the season. There are a lot of new players learning new positions. I think we are getting better every game.

“I liked the way (we) came out in the second half and really buckled down. I think they notched it up a level and played really solid in that second half, which is what we discussed in the half.”
