CUSHING — One person was killed and a second person seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday evening.

The crash was reported to Knox County Regional Communications at approximately 5:12 p.m. May 31 in the area of 80 Spear Mill Road.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office reported that the cause and circumstances of the crash are being investigated. The preliminary investigation found that a 2006 Toyota Matrix, driven by Dalton Cross, 29, of South Thomaston went off the road and struck a tree. Cross died at the scene of the crash.

A passenger, Tailynne Fogg, 19, of Rockland, was ejected from the vehicle and taken by LifeFlight helicopter to a trauma center.

Spear Mill Road was closed to traffic for roughly three hours.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Cushing Fire and Ambulance, Thomaston Ambulance, Warren Fire, and Burpee Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Services. A Maine State Police officer specializing in reconstructing crashes also was assisting.
