Three Capital Area Technical Center students have awarded scholarships from The Granite Group TGG Cares committee. All three will graduate from Gardiner Area High School.

Alexzander Hembree of Pittston he completed the Machine Tool program last year. This year he decided to take the Plumbing & Heating program.

Hembree enjoys 3-D printing, swims competitively, and likes to garden. He would like to own his own business someday that will specialize in green technology.

In the fall, Hembree plans to attend the University of Maine at Augusta and work part-time with a plumber, according to a news release from Stephanie Turgeon, Student Services coordinator at the Augusta technical center.

Timothy Lowe of Gardiner is enrolled in the Plumbing & Heating program. Outside of school, he likes to fish, hunt and use his hands and tools to work on projects. He works doing property management, where he is able to use a little of his plumbing skills, as well as mowing, weed whacking and landscaping.

Lowe spent his April vacation working with a plumber and will pursue a career in the plumbing field. He has been hired by Ladd’s Plumbing and will use the scholarship for tools.

Trevor Marks of Pittston came to Capital Area Technical Center this year unsure of what type of career he wanted to pursue after graduation, but enrolled in the Plumbing & Heating program. Marks found his passion there and will pursue a career in the plumbing and heating field.

Outside of school, he likes to hunt, fish and cut wood. In the fall, Marks plans to attend Kennebec Valley Community College with the goal of becoming a Master Plumber.
