I was disheartened to see the recent article, “No one hurt when car drives under school bus carrying children in Kingfield” (Sept. 11). On June 6, my car was forcibly wedged under a school bus in Belgrade after being rear-ended by a driver who was not paying attention.

When drivers are not mindful, it only takes a second to affect someone’s life forever. My daughter and I will live with the trauma of this incident for many years.

If you cannot be awake and alert for the entire time you are behind the wheel, you do not belong on the road. There are lives on the line. School bus drivers and students should not have to think twice about whether drivers will actually stop when children are getting on and off the bus.
