WATERVILLE — A free, holiday dinner will be served to the public beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Alfond Youth & Community Center at 126 North St.
The 99th annual Holiday Community Dinner is hosted by the youth center and staffed by center employees, volunteers from Sunrise Rotary Club of Waterville and youth center members. Central Maine Motors Auto Group is the event’s sponsor for the 10th year in a row, having donated 70 turkeys for this year’s dinner and the turkey will be seasoned with fresh sage and assorted other fresh herbs grown in the Alfond Center’s greenhouse. Butternut squash was donated by local growers and Huhtamaki supplied paper plates.
The cost of the dinner to the youth center is about $2,000 and the total value of the meal is $4,000.
Organizers say they expect up to 1,000 people to attend the dinner.
“We are really excited to be hosting the AYCC’s 99th annual holiday dinner for the community, a tradition for us since the first year of the Waterville Boy’s Club,” said Sheila Upton, the Alfond Center’s director of nutrition and food services. “This year more than 50 staff and volunteers have worked hard to make this free community dinner possible.”
