As a business owner I read with great interest the opinion voiced by Robert Caverly about the credit card costs incurred by businesses (“Commentary: Swipe fees not a villain to small business,” Nov. 29).

My company takes credit cards, as do most businesses, as a necessity to accommodate the customers that we have. I pay between $15,000-$20,000 per year to do so. Do I like doing this? No. But my loyal customers are very valuable to me and I do so with a smile. At the same time, I would love to have customers insist on paying me cash! Would I mind? No, and I know that it would not cost me 9.1% to do so.

I have to say that I personally do not have a credit card because I don’t believe in them but do have a business credit card out of necessity for ordering parts out of state to get my customers in and out in a reasonable amount of time.
