The town of Jay’s police and public works departments will again this year participate in a collaborative program called Sand for Seniors.
Employees will deliver a bucket of sand/salt to citizens to use on their icy walkways or driveways. Because of insurance restrictions, they cannot spread the sand/salt but can deliver it, according to a news release from Shiloh LaFreniere, Jay town manager.
Landlords should be supplying their tenants with sand. The program is for senior citizens that are otherwise not able to pick up sand/salt from public works on their own.
Those who would like to request a bucket can call 897-6766 or email [email protected]. Once a bucket needs to be filled again, people can do the same process and buckets will be switched.
Same-day delivery may not always be available depending on manpower, so people should plan ahead.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
