Each and every one of us is different — different mental and physical health, different life circumstances, different belief system. That is why reproductive healthcare decisions must be kept private, and not interfered with by the government.

We should not be forced to submit to laws created by a minority who are often guided by their own personal religious beliefs. After all, we live in a pluralistic society where no religion should dominate.

That is why I am in favor of the Maine Legislature passing L.D. 780. This resolution would enshrine the right to reproductive autonomy in the Maine Constitution. We should not have to face uncertainty after every election to preserve these rights. People’s health and lives are at stake.

Maine voters should be allowed to decide if they want these private medical decisions protected in the Maine Constitution. Give the voters of Maine the opportunity to have their say. Maine voters, not elected officials, should make this important decisions. It’s what voters on both sides of this issue are calling for…listening and following the voice of the majority.

For this resolution to pass, two-thirds of both bodies of the Legislature must vote yes. If you want to have your say, please encourage your state representative and senator to vote yes on L.D. 780 so Maine voters can decide.
