AUGUSTA — Officials have identified the man critically injured Monday in a crash on Interstate 95 in Augusta as Jack Duncan, 19, of Newcastle.

Duncan crashed his 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck when he swerved off the northbound lane of the interstate and hit a tree. The crash happened near Augusta Exit 113 around 7:30 a.m.

Duncan was initially taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta before being transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland by LifeFlight of Maine with life-threatening injuries.

Caroline Cornish, Maine Medical Center spokesperson, said Tuesday that Duncan remained in critical condition.

Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, released Duncan’s name Tuesday. Moss said he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The accident was one of 20 that police responded to on Monday morning because of the weather. Moss said in a press release on Monday that speed and weather conditions contributed to the crash.
