JAY — A Livermore Falls man was arrested Monday in connection with gunshots fired recently on Church Street.

Jeromy C. Merchant, 43, was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. A conviction carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
Jay police responded to a complaint of shots fired in the Church Street area on Feb. 8. Merchant was identified from evidence from a surveillance camera at a residence across the street.
Cpl. Joseph Sage interviewed two people who identified Merchant as the suspect who discharged a firearm within 15 feet of two apartment buildings at 9 and 11 Church St., according to a Jay police affidavit filed in Farmington District Court.
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Community Center are just below the residences.
Livermore Falls officer Trevor Gagnon also identified Merchant after a suspicious vehicle complaint involving Merchant earlier that morning.
Six .40-caliber shell casings were found in the driveway between 9 and 11 Church St.
Merchant was convicted May 18, 2001, for burglary and May 26, 2023, for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, with priors, according a Jay police affidavit filed in Farmington District Court.
