On April 10, Michael Lemelin, state representative for Chelsea, Randolph, Pittston and Dresden, stated that the horrible shooting that occurred in Lewiston was God’s revenge for bills adopted by Maine legislators. I am not sure what God Rep. Lemelin worships but it is not one I recognize.

For Lemelin to exploit the pain and suffering of the families and friends of the victims in Lewiston to advance his own political agenda should be abhorrent to all of us. Those people were not a sacrifice to God but people whose lives were cut short by a man with mental health issues.

It is distressing, embarrassing and reprehensible to have someone like this representing our communities. His apology was stilted and totally insincere. Lemelin should resign.
