The Waterville Trades for ME conference on April 26 hosted eighth and ninth grade girls from Lawrence Junior High School, Lawrence High School and Messalonskee Middle School to learn about careers in the trades.

The conference featured sessions ranging from heavy equipment operation and welding/machining to robotics, informational technology and criminal justice, providing an opportunity for youth to experience trade professions through hands-on activities, presentations and demonstrations.
The conference was hosted by New Ventures Maine, Mid-Maine Technical Center, and Kennebec Valley Community College. It was held at KVCC’s Fairfield campus.
Trades for ME conferences are designed to showcase careers in which women are traditionally underrepresented.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
