Cassie Julia is running for House District 65 Maine state representative in the June 11 primary election. Cassie needs our votes!

Since 1983, I have been a resident and taxpayer in the South End. I helped initiate and facilitate SENA (South End Neighborhood Association) from 2001 to 2011. SENA’s focus on quality-of-life improvement in this low- to middle-income neighborhood should include adequate quality housing, safety in the streets and infrastructure, supportive childcare offerings, clean green space, robust commerce and collaboration among all residents and stakeholders.

In my opinion, key to achieving these goals is reproductive rights for women and girls, including access to abortion care. The ability to control if and when we have children offers a family more opportunity and control to achieve financial security and well-being. Cassie Julia will fight for our rights as well as fighting for gender affirming care and LGBTQ+ principles. She is endorsed by Planned Parenthood.

Additionally, Cassie serves on the Waterville Planning Board and is a volunteer and substitute teacher in our school system. She endorses affordable housing initiatives, supports our underserved families, and property tax relief for service centers like Waterville.

I’m tired of constantly writing letters to my current State Representative asking him to vote to protect our rights. Even supporting contraceptive care would greatly reduce the need for abortion.

I am a nurse and I have spent hours at the State House advocating support for gender affirming care and support for reproductive care including abortions. I shouldn’t have to do that. The overwhelming majority of people in Maine support reproductive rights and deserve the right to make these personal decisions. Cassie Julia will get my vote on June 11, and I ask you to do the same.
