Glenwood Ensemble SYSTEM

Glenwood Ensemble will perform as part of the Chamber Series at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, at Denmark Arts Center.

Krysia Tripp received an M.M. from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and studied with Thomas Nyfenger at Yale. Other influential teachers include Leone Buyse, Robert Willoughby, Jack Wellbaum, and Julius Baker. She has concertized in the U.S. and Europe and has had the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of artists, including Luciano Pavarotti, Peter, Paul & Mary, the Brubeck Brothers, and Andrea Bocelli. She currently performs with the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Portland Symphony, Opera Maine, and the Hartford Symphony. In addition, she has participated in the Spoleto Festival (USA and Italy), The Aspen Music Festival, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, Bear Valley Music Festival (CA), Monadnock Music, The New Hampshire Music Festival, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. She has spent the past six summers as an Artist Faculty member of the Interharmony International Music Festival in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Germany and Acqui-Termi, Italy. Recent concert series include chamber music at the Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Yale Center for British Art. She is currently a member of the Artist Faculty at USM, Bates, and Bowdoin Colleges, and the Portland Conservatory of Music. She also maintains a private studio in Portland.

Dr. Thomas Parchman, clarinetist, came to Maine in 1984 as a result of a joint search between the University of Southern Maine and the Portland Symphony Orchestra. He holds the rank of Professor at USM, and has been the Principal Clarinetist with the orchestra since his arrival. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern California, a Master of Music from Northwestern University, and a bachelor’s in music education and performance from Southern Methodist University. His principal teachers have been Clark Brody (Chicago Symphony), Larry Combs (Chicago Symphony), Robert Marcellus (Cleveland Orchestra), and Mitchell Lurie (Chicago Symphony and soloist). He regularly performs as a member of the Portland Symphony and the Rhode Island Philharmonic and performs recitals throughout New England.

Wren Saunders, bassoonist, received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern Maine and a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in bassoon performance. While at New England Conservatory she studied with Richard Svoboda; other teachers include Richard Ranti, Ben Kamins, and John Hunt. She is currently the principal bassoonist of the Bangor Symphony and the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra. She formerly held the position of Associate Principal Bassoon of the Knoxville Symphony. In 2007 and 2023, she was a concerto soloist with the Bangor Symphony. An active freelancer she has played with the region’s top orchestras including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, BMOP, Portland Symphony Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Opera Maine, Vermont Symphony, and the ProArte Chamber Orchestra of Boston among others. Saunders has a vibrant and successful bassoon studio where her students are regularly accepted into the Maine All-State and District festivals, the USM Youth Ensembles as well as New England Conservatory’s Youth Orchestras and the Boston Youth Orchestras in Massachusetts. She has had six students chose to perform on From the Top, which airs on NPR. She is currently on the faculty of the University of Southern Maine and the Portland Conservatory. Ms. Saunders is an attorney, teaches elementary music at Kennebunk Elementary School, and in her spare time she enjoys playing golf and cooking with her husband Barry.
