Readfield Heritage Days 2024 is set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10. Event organizers have planned activities, fun and entertainment for the whole family.
Festivities will kick off at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Readfield Historical Society’s Wine and Cheese Social at 759 Main St. This fundraiser and membership drive gives attendees the opportunity to learn about the town’s history and meet neighbors, according to a news release from Dennis Price, Heritage Days Committee chairman.
The Oldies Dance and Sock Hop is set for 6-8 p.m. at the Readfield Beach, 1015 Main St. Admission is free admission with refreshments available; in case of rain, dance will be cancelled.
Heritage Days Achievement Quest for Kids will take place all-day Saturday. Check off each quest and bring it to the Heritage Days staff at the beach to win a cash prize. Get an Achievement Quest form at the Town Office or on Saturday.
The inaugural Heritage Days 5K will begin at 8 a.m. in the middle school parking lot, 2100 Millard Harrison Drive. The Maranacook Lake Association is sponsoring the event which follows the school and town trails at the Maranacook Community Schools. The Masons are back with their pancake breakfast set for 8-11 a.m. at the Lafayette Lodge #48 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Hall, 1138 Main St. The cost is $8 for ages 11 and older and children 10 and younger eat for free. Proceeds will benefit the Maranacook Food Pantry.
The Readfield Community Library’s book sale runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Readfield Fire Station at 1154 Main St.
Walking tour of Kents Hill School campus in honor of the School’s 2024 bicentennial will be available from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Walkers can learn about the older buildings on campus and some of the main characters who helped establish KHS and taught there in the earliest days. There is no fee, park at the Alfond Athletics Center, 1617 Main St..
The Readfield Historical Society building at 759 Main St. will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Readfield Recreation Committee will bring back its Readfield Kickball Championships, which include prizes for best team outfits, and winner. The championship tournament begins at 10 a.m. For location and to register, call 207-620-2844.
At the beach, there will be four large inflatables, two games and two obstacle courses are set to debut at Heritage Days 2024. Also, friends from the Manchester Lions plan to provide food at the beach from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Also at the beach will be makers and community organizations. Knitted bears, mushrooms, fine art, glass crafts, lavender, metal works, wood turning, lawn decorations, earrings and more will be featured for the Heritage Days Maker’s Market.
Because of fireworks setup and safety, the beach will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The Fire Department’s open house and barbecue is set for 3-5 p.m. at 1170 Main St.
Heritage Days will end with a fireworks display at the beach around 9 p.m.
