Richmond’s Winokurzew sisters, Elsie and Olivia, worked at Starbucks for five years when they started to think about what to do next in their careers, but did not know where to start.
Little did they know, about two years later they’d be planning the menu for their own business. Such as holiday-themed specialty drinks including a Gingerbread Latte and Snowflake Squirrel, which is a caramel cold brew with caramel cold foam on top and snowflake sprinkles.
It all started when their sister, Lindsay Beall and her husband, Daniel Beall, were visiting Virginia and overheard the conversation.
That same night, Daniel Beall, with his background in business administration, helped the three sisters put together a plan for Morning Moose Coffee, which opened in summer 2022 as a pink food truck stationed at the Richmond Agway.
“We made a mission statement and figured out what our drivers would be for the business, and we looked for a food truck right away,” Daniel Beall said. “When opportunity knocks at the door, you have to open the door and let it come through or else it will pass you by. I saw the opportunity and they are clearly passionate about coffee.”
The Morning Moose Coffee team signed the lease for their first official store front at 11 Main St. in Topsham. They do not plan on opening until spring 2026, as they have to wait for the current tenant’s lease to end. In the meantime, they have a mobile coffee cart parked in the driveway there.
In January 2023, Morning Moose Coffee opened a cafe in Idexx Laboratories in Westbrook that serves around 6,000 people who work on the campus. They also have an events trailer for fairs, events and weddings, and an indoor coffee cart.
The food truck stationed at the Richmond Agway at 467 Main St., will remain there until they, hopefully, buy a flagship location, Daniel Beall said, hinting at future plans.
Daniel Beall credits the Morning Moose Coffee Team for its success.
“We all bring our own unique aspects to the business and bring the best to it and want it to be successful,” Daniel Beall said. “We have some of the greatest employees who carry the torch. It’s more than about us, but the team. From there, when you have great employees who treat the customers right, the customers will want to come back.”
