Diners looking for a quick bite for breakfast or lunch may find what they’re looking for in Home Town Cafe, a new eatery at 72 Armory Road in Waterville.
Jason and Tonya Pelotte have renovated the former sweetFrog frozen yogurt shop into the cafe, which opened Thursday and is open 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Breakfast sandwiches and fruit and yogurt parfaits are served for breakfast, and lunch includes sandwiches, soup, salad and a special, hot meal of the day which includes everything from quiche to macaroni and cheese.
“It’s usually a comfort food,” Tonya Pelotte said Tuesday. “Today it was chop suey, Saturday it was shepherd’s pie.”
The Pelottes were the most recent owners of the sweetFrog franchise that was located on Waterville Commons Drive before they moved it to Armory Road. The couple decided after a year not to renew a 10-year contract for the franchise and instead open the cafe.
“It’s been great — we have been very welcomed,” Tonya Pelotte said. “People are excited to see us finally open.”
The cafe has 10 tables with two seats each, and in summer, diners may eat on the outdoor patio, she said. The cafe, located adjacent to Caswell’s Liquidation Center, employs six.
