Southern Maine will likely see its first major snowfall of the season next week.
The National Weather Service in Gray is anticipating the first widespread snowfall of the season to start Tuesday.
Forecasters are still trying to determine how intense the storm will be, meteorologist Jon Palmer said Saturday morning. The weather service will likely know more by Monday.
“It is looking increasingly likely that we’re going to see widespread snow across the area,” Palmer said. “What we’re trying to iron out is, is this just going to be two or three inches? Or a full on winter storm?”
Southern Maine is also expected to see rainfall starting Sunday, the weather service reports, although that should clear in time for the snow. North of the mountains, Palmer said, Mainers might get a couple inches of snow.
