A Liberty man was arrested and charged with assault after allegedly attacking a member of the town’s selectboard, state police said.

Maine State Police said Friday that they were called to investigate an assault of a selectboard member at Liberty Town Hall on Tuesday evening.

Roland Singer, 56, was charged with two counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief after investigators found probable cause for his arrest, state police said in a news release.

The selectboard member was treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said.

State police handle police work in Liberty and said no further information was available.

Voicemails left Friday morning with the town of Liberty seeking more details were not immediately returned.

Liberty, a small town between Augusta and Belfast in Waldo County, had a population of 934 people in the 2020 Census.
