Bowdoin College senior Tyler Huck scored his first professional goal for the Hearts of Pine, but Portland gave up a goal late in stoppage time and had to settle for a 2-2 tie with Union Omaha on Saturday night in Omaha, Nebraska.
Union Omaha dominated possession but trailed 2-0 at halftime. The Owls broke through in the 60th minute on a goal by Kempes Waldemar Tekiela, then tied it in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Samuel Kwaku Owusu redirected a shot past Portland goalie Hunter Morse.
Portland is 2-2-4 in USL League One play and falls to 10th in the standings with 10 points. Union Omaha is 5-2-1 and is in second place, one point behind One Knoxville SC.
The Hearts took a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game when Huck ripped a shot from the 18 into the upper right-hand corner. Huck was the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Year in the fall, when he recorded 34 goals and 19 assists. He is scheduled to graduate from Bowdoin on May 23.
Portland went up 2-0 in first-half stoppage time on a goal by Titus Washington.
The Owls held possession for 74.6% of the game and outshot Portland 6-2.
