Maine State Police troopers have temporarily closed Route 9 in Chelsea between Intervale Road and Gilbert Drive after a crash between two commercial vehicles Friday morning.
Members of both the Central Field Troop and Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit are on scene, a social media post from the state police said. Tow trucks were actively working to remove the vehicles from the scene.
Route 9, a major road connecting the eastern side of Augusta to Randolph, is impassable while crews are on scene investigating the crash, state police said.
For drivers traveling south from Augusta, the nearest detour around the closed section would be via Hallowell Road, Town House Road, Davenport Road and Cheney Road.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
