The Portland Sea Dogs scored three runs on a seventh-inning fielding error to defeat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 3-1 in the final game of their six-game series Sunday in Binghamton, New York.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Portland’s Franklin Arias hit a fly ball to left field that was dropped by Binghamton left fielder Jose Ramos. Miguel Bleis, Nelly Taylor and Tyler McDonough all scored while Arias reached second base.
The Sea Dogs (26-24) had only five hits. Max Carlson (2-1) allowed two hits over two innings to earn the win. Starter Gage Ziehl allowed three hits and struck out six batters in four innings.
JT Schwartz homered for the Rumble Ponies (18-33). Starting pitcher Jonathan Santucci allowed three hits and struck out five batters in five innings.
