Blake Wehunt pitched six scoreless innings to lead the Portland Sea Dogs to a 6-0 win over the Hartford Yard Goats in an Eastern League game Sunday in Hartford, Connecticut.
Wehunt allowed one hit, struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter. GJ Hill double in the third inning and was Hartford’s only batter to reach second base.
Jeremy Wu-Yelland, Max Carlson and Patrick Halligan each pitched a scoreless inning for Portland, which combined to allow two hits, no walks and strike out 13.
Miguel Bleis hit his fourth home run in the last three days in the first inning to give Portland a 1-0 lead. Franklin Arias singled, moved to third on a double by Nate Baez and scored on a wild pitch in the third. Arias added an RBI single in the fifth after Nelly Taylor lead off the inning with a double to make it 3-0.
Jack Winnay, who made his Double-A debut with Portland on Tuesday, he is first home run with the Sea Dogs, a two-run shot in the ninth. Matt Frazier followed with a solo home run.
Portland took four of six games its first series of the second half. The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field for a six-game series with Altoona starting Tuesday evening.
