Marvin Alcantara and Brooks Brannon homered while Blake Wehunt and Jedixson Paez combined for a two-hit, 17-strikeout shutout as the Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Altoona Curve 10-0 in the teams’ series finale Sunday at Hadlock Field.
Portland (43-37) took four out of six games from Altoona (35-46).
Right-hander Wehunt (4-4, 3.38 ERA) allowed one hit over five innings, striking out nine and walking four. Paez allowed one hit and struck out eight with zero walks over four innings.
Alcantara hit a two-run homer off Altoona starter Kyle Robinson (0-1, 15.00 ERA) in the second inning, and Brannon added a solo shot in the sixth off reliever Cy Nielson, who was tagged for five hits and four runs, all earned, in 1 1/3 innings. Robinson allowed five hits and five earned runs over three innings.
Brannon, Alcantara and Franklin Arias had two hits apiece for Portland.
Nick Sogard, on a rehab assignment from the Boston Red Sox, was 0 for 5 with four strikeouts for the Sea Dogs.
