NORRIDGEWOCK — A 45-year-old North Anson woman was arrested Thursday afternoon, police said, after officers found 17 bags of heroin in her possession.

Somerset County Sheriff’s Department Detective Lt. Carl E. Gottardi II said police had been investigating Jill Berryman for several months and executed a search warrant during a traffic stop at 1 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Route 2.

In addition to the 17 bags of heroin, Gottardi said, law enforcement personnel seized four oxycodone pills and drug paraphernalia, including digital scales from Berryman and her 1998 Hyundai.

He estimated the street value of the heroin and oxycodone pills totaled $700.

Berryman faces a Class B felony charge on trafficking heroin, which can carry a 10-year prison term and $10,000 fine.

She also faces Class C felony charges on possession of the heroin and oxycodone, which can carry a five-year prison term and $5,000 in fines.

She was taken to Somerset County Correctional Facility; she is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 8, in Somerset County Superior Court. Her bail was set at $10,000 cash, Gottardi said.

The District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case and additional charges are possible, Gottardi said.
