Beginning Thursday, June 15, Readfield Play Group plans to meet at the Readfield Beach on Route 17 next to the Weathervane restaurant.
The group will continue to meet from 10-11 a.m. Thursdays this summer, weather permitting, and return to Readfield Elementary School in the fall.
The meetings are free and open to the public. No permit is needed as long as children stay in the park area above the beach during play. All residents can obtain a beach permit for free from the town office.
Preschoolers and siblings can actively learn outdoors for the summer months. Focus of the group remains the same to encourage children to play with others as they acquire social skills. Literacy and motor skills will also be emphasized with songs, stories and crafts.
If it is pouring, the play group will not meet. A decision to cancel will be made by 9 a.m., and families who have registered their emails will be notified.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
