A New Hampshire woman died Friday in a snowmobile crash in Jackman, according to the Maine Warden Service.
The crash on ITS 89 was reported around 11:45 a.m. Friday, Game Warden Lt. Kris Barboza said in a statement Saturday.
Michelle Caroline Cantos, 23, died at the scene after losing control of her Polaris snowmobile and crashing on the trail, Barboza said.
Cantos was riding with family and friends, all heading north.
“Inexperience appears to be a factor leading to the crash,” Barboza said.
Firefighters and medical personnel from the Jackman-Moose River Fire & Rescue Department responded quickly to the crash but were unable to save Cantos’ life, the department said in a social media post.
“There are a lot of snowmobilers on the trails this holiday weekend, and there will be throughout the coming school vacation week, so please ride safely,” the department said.
