AUGUSTA — A woman who is suspected of stealing money from a truck early Friday morning is in the hospital after being found cold and shaking not far from the Manchester line.
Amanda Priscilla Ware, 27, of Sidney, was found about 6:15 a.m. Friday after she apparently walked for more than an hour along Sanford Road from the site of a theft on Burns Road. She has been charged with theft and burglary of a motor vehicle, police said.
Several hours later, Ware was still at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
Augusta Police Sgt. Christian Behr said police believe Ware herself called 911 about 5:15 a.m. but then hung up. They were able to call back, but she told officers she was fine, Behr said.
About an hour later, they received a call from a homeowner on Burns Road reporting that a woman was in his truck, grabbed a handful of change there, and he chased her out, Behr said. She left the area on foot.
Ware, who also has lived in Augusta, has previous convictions for burglary of a motor vehicle and theft.
