Reading programs, concerts, celebrations to fill vacation for library patrons
AUGUSTA — Lithgow Public Library at the Ballard Center, 6 E. Chestnut St., will host the following summer events:
• Story Time at the Mill Park Farmer’s Market at 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday.
• Summer Reading Program 2015. Participants can sign up for the summer reading challenge of reading for 16 hours. Those interested will be given a chart and schedule of events, a pencil, and a voucher for a free Portland Sea Dogs game (good for children 16 years old or younger). Once the reading goal is reached, bring the chart in and collect a prize. The program ends Aug. 31.
• A concert featuring Songman Stan is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, in the Program Room.
• Animal Adaptations, featuring Lisa Kane from the Maine Wildlife Park, will present mounts of different animals and compare/contrast their adaptations to their habitats. Suitable for kids in grades k-8. The event is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Mill Park Pavilion.
• Butterflies featuring Jerry Schneider will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 9, in the Program Room. Participants can learn about butterflies, and make a butterfly T-shirt. Bring a white T-shirt, or purchase one for $4 at the event.
• A concert featuring Mr. Harley is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Mill Park Pavilion. Bring a chair or a blanket.
• Choosy Kids featuring Ms. Jenn will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 23, in the Program Room. Bring sneakers and sunglasses. The message is: Be Choosy, Be Healthy. There will be upbeat rockin’ music to teach kids about healthy habits that will get you moving, eating and brushing for a strong and healthy body. Ms. Jen will introduce us to Choosy, and you can “Be a Part of the Story” with Choosy, the Hero for Health.
• Build-a-Book will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, in the Program Room. Children can create a picture book with their caregivers’ help. The library will provide the materials and guide participants through this literary project.
• End of Summer Reading Celebration will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, in the Program Room. Participants can dress up as their favorite story book character.
