A 19-year-old Fort Kent man was killed in a double motorcycle crash Saturday.

In a statement, police said Colby Martin was traveling east on Route 161 on a 2009 Harley Davidson along with Donny Mcbreairty, 22, of St. John Plantation on a 2001 Harley Davidson at 1:40 a.m. when Martin tried to pass Mcbreairty at a high rate of speed, colliding with the other motorcycle and causing both operators to lose control of their vehicles.

Both were ejected from their motorcycles. Neither were wearing helmets, police said.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. Mcbreairty was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

Police said speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the accident.
